West Coast Architecture

Hello Everyone! I am now able to comment and blog again! My follower list keeps
disappearing though!

Friends and family back in Ontario always ask me about the homes here in
British Columbia. I thought i would share some with you. The style and architecture
is completely different from where i come from. The style out here is mostly contemporary West Coast designs and Arts and Crafts design.

Harding plank siding with lots of cedar. You rarely see brick and sometimes there
is a bit of stone work.
This first home here is for sale right now. Listing price $768,000! Wow! I have
to mention that the homes are at least $300,000 more than back home and
i still have not figured out why!

I didn't post any photos of this home in case the realtor got upset. So just the outside.
It is a beautiful home. I like the low maintenance front yard. This home is built on a mountain
so the back has two levels going down. It has an amazing view of mountains and the lake.

This next home belongs to good friends of ours here in the Cowichan Valley. It is only two

years young so the gardens are just being put in and the driveway still has to be finished.

This is the view from their living room. You can see Maple Mountain, Salt Spring Island and

Cowichan Bay from here. Amazing view!

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all my American friends and family!!!

  2. Wow! I'm glad you're able to post comments now. Yes, my followers list is gone too. Crazy!Your friend's home is lovely and the view is amazing! It's hard to understand the cost of housing from one part of the country to the other. B.C. and Alberta seem to be way up there in price as is southern Ontario, which is a bit less than the western provinces. I guess the best home prices are in the Maritimes. ;-) Have a great weekend. Cloudy and cool here. I'm packing up my kitchen cupboards for the renovation so lots to do indoors! Pamela

  4. It is always interesting seeing how architecture differs from place to place. I am blown away by the beautiful countryside in your area. I must get my atlas out sometime to see exactly where you live. I have visisted Vancouver before. Is Vancouver Island in the same part of Canada? x Sharon

  5. Wow, I really enjoyed the tour and seeing how different the terrain is out there! I am at the opposite side from you in South Georgia, but I am loving the architecture and views in your part of the world.

  8. My Follower list keeps disappearing and reappearing too Pamela. I hope blogger gets all these kinks fixed soon. It's most irritating. :(

I love to go on MLS and look at the most expensive homes in Canada. Usually they are in Victoria, Vancouver or Toronto. There are sure some beautiful homes out there. sigh... if only I was rich. ;)

    Happy Weekend Pamela!

  9. Glad to hear you can comment and post again. It's frustrating not being able to do that. Homes here are a LOT more - I don't know why either. But I think so many people come out here to retire and that drives the prices up.

    Gorgeous views, gorgeous homes.

  12. I love our West Coast style of exteriors - wood and stone and lot's of beautiful trim and not just one colour. Each house looks unique, don't you think? Thanks for the little tour, it's always fun to peek inside someone else's home (we went Open Housing yesterday just for the heck of it - and trying to explain to our 5 year old that no we weren't moving, just having a look to see what's out there)

  15. Interesting Pam--seems like house styles are very similar in all places that are very woodsy--kind of an upscale Cabin feel.

  16. Hi Pamela,
I will never understand the price of houses out there. It is a pretty area, but 800,000 dollars worth?!?! I highly doubt it. You can buy lots with pretty houses on them here for what you pay for just a lot out there.
The homes you showed are wonderful examples of the West Coast style. I have always admired houses with shingle siding mixed with rock, so pretty!
    Hugs, Cindy

  17. Thanks for the tour Pamela. These homes are much more contemporary than what I'm used to here in New England. Can't get over that first price tag, but such amazing views!

  18. Wow, those are some amazing homes, Pamela! Yes, I am continually amazed at how much homes go for here compaired to back in Michigan! Our neighbor here had her home listed for 1.5 million! Unreal! We have lots of Craftsman style homes here, but I do miss the much older homes. Everything here seems to be pretty new!

  20. That home has my dream kitchen cupboards!
Pamela...you live in one of the prettiest areas in the world...When we drive to Whistler the view of Horseshoe Bay is breathtaking. We used to travel to Vancouver Island and Saltspring by boat years ago...I would love to make the trip again some day!
